Real Madrid won La Liga last night, their first league title in three years, but Gareth Bale's awkward celebrations caught the eye.

Karim Benzema scored twice as Madrid beat Villarreal to clinched the title, sparking jubilant celebrations at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.

Though, not everyone was as jubilant as others. Bale was pictured standing away from the group as coach Zinedine Zidane was thrown into the air by his players.

Real Madrid posted videos of the celebrations on their social media channels, with Bale spotted meekly punching the air at the end of the back row as captain Sergio Aguero lifted the trophy.

Bale was then caught on camera attempting to trip up his team-mates as they jumped around in a circle, the forward running behind and sticking out a leg.

The former Tottenham man was again an unused substitute on Thursday, as he has been for the five games previous, as Madrid recorded a 10th win on the trot.

Zidane was asked about Bale ahead of the game, which the coach brushed aside: “The question about Gareth again! We are interested in the game, just like Gareth is. You (the press) are always trying to put things between us but you will not succeed.”

Perhaps he wanted to be elsewhere on his birthday?
